Jeff Bezos: Amazon founder is world's new richest man

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has overtaken Bill Gates to become the world's richest person, worth $90.6bn. A rise in Amazon shares on Thursday means Mr Bezos's worth has now eclipsed the Microsoft co-founder, according to the latest Forbes Index. Mr Bezos owns almost a fifth of the shares in Amazon, whose value has now exceeded $500bn. Mr Bezos says he is selling about $1bn of Amazon stock every year to fund Blue Origin, the project he has founded to develop commercial space travel. Last month Mr Bezos appeared to be toying with new ideas in the philanthropic sphere. 2015 New York Times publishes report painting a critical picture of working conditions at Amazon, which Mr Bezos says he "Doesn't recognise".
