Off-duty pilot accused of trying to crash Alaska Airlines jet cites breakdown

An off-duty pilot who allegedly tried to crash a passenger jet said he did so after suffering an apparent nervous breakdown, court documents show. Mr Emerson told the pilots "I am not okay" before reaching for the shutoff handles, according to the documents. The criminal complaint states that one pilot said he had to wrestle with Mr Emerson until he stopped resisting and was ushered out of the cockpit. One flight attendant told investigators they observed Mr Emerson saying "I messed everything up" and that he "Tried to kill everybody". Ms Gavello told the outlet she heard a flight attendant tell the suspect: "We're going to be fine, it's OK, we'll get you off the plane."
